Kevin Pauwels claims World Cup in Milton Keynes (UK)

02-12-2014The World Cup in Milton Keynes was a huge success for Ridley Bikes! Kevin Pauwels won the race, teammate Klaas Vantornout finished on place 2. The CX sport was also a winner. Huge crowds were present for the first World Cup held outside of continental Europe.

It was a chaotic start of the race. Nys his chain dropped after a slip, and he never managed to get back to the front. Pauwels and Walsleben took charge in the second lap, and were joined by Van der Haar, Mourey and Vantornout.

The five leaders did not seem to be able to make the difference until Mourey accelerated in the penultimate lap. His attack put Van der Haar and Walsleben a short distance behind when entering the final lap. Vantonout took the initiative, and Mourey made a small mistake. Teammates at Sunweb-Napoleon Games Pauwels and Vantornout fought it out in the final lap. Vantonout wanted to avoid the sprint and attacked several times, without success. In the sprint, Pauwels was much faster and claimed his first World Cup victory of the season. In the GC, the first 4 riders are all on a Ridley X-Night with 4ZA saddle, stem, and seat post, and handlebar!

Pauwels: "It was very hard. There are a lot of running sections which make it tough for me. I had back pains at the end of the race. Still, I was good enough to take the win."
