Kevin Pauwels takes the win in Superprestige Spa-Francorchamps

24-11-2014Kevin Pauwels has won the first CX race in Spa-Francorchamps. He clearly was the best rider in the race. Van der Haar and Meeusen were 2nd and 3rd.

This time the circuit in Spa-Francorchamps was not reserved for Formula 1, but for the best CX riders in the world. It was the first time that they raced on this spectacular track, but we hope more races will follow! There even was a run-up with parts up to 50%!

The start of the race was surprisingly closed with a lead group of no less than 10 riders, but when Kevin Pauwels attacked the masks fell off. Only Lars Van der Haar was able to follow, and no one would see the duo again until after the race. Tom Meeusen attacked in the 2nd group, and finished half a minute behind Pauwels.

Pauwels looked stronger the entire race, but in a sprint with Van der Haar you are never sure. When the dutchman fell in the final lap, there was no stopping Pauwels on his Ridley X-Night with 4ZA components. With this victory, Pauwels is in pole position in the GC of the Superprestige. He also leads the World Cup.

Kevin Pauwels: “It’s great. It was very tough. There were a lot of running sections so it wasn’t really tailor-made for me but I felt good. It was probably the toughest race of the season, and I am very happy I was able to win. My first half of the season is a success,” Pauwels told Vier.
